Question:
An Imam recited Surah Al-Layl in the first rak’ah and Surah Ash-Shams in the second rak’ah. What is the ruling regarding such salah?
Answer:
- The general principle is that Surahs (chapters) and Aayats (verses) should be recited in the correct order, i.e. from the right to left, in every salah.
- It is makrooh (disliked) to recite the Holy Qur’an in the wrong order in salah.
- However, if a person recites Surah An-Naas in the first rak’ah, he should recite from the beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah in the second rak’ah.
- Therefore, in the case mentioned above, the salah will be makrooh. Thus, such actions should be avoided in salah.
Only Allah knows best.
